Fire Senses

See it dance, crackling wood, its music.

Out of control in its deadly ballet.

The dance floor scorched from its destructive pirouette.

Enjoy its perfume when chestnuts roast.

When out of control, unpleasant stench.

The smoky atomizer is not a gift.

Dreamy sounds, smack, crackle and pop.

Wildfire out of control, hear it’s raging voice.

Soundtrack of death and destruction.

The night is cold, its warmth is welcome.

A home in flames, the doors so hot.

If the flames touch us, we burn.

A performer swallows flame.

A circus trick to entertain the crowd.

A flavor best left un-tasted.

  1. Dear Maryann,

Long time no see. Apt description of fire in verse. Nicely done.

  2. I enjoyed the contrasts in each verse. So many things are like this–useful and good when under control and used wisely, destructive when not.

  3. Birgit says:

Wow you grabbed both worlds regarding fire. Well done!

  4. Great descriptive piece.

  5. This is a great take on the prompt. Brought many visions of destruction countered by scenes of warmth and comfort. Well done.

  6. Maryann, Good description. You left little unsaid about the destruction fire can bring as well as its benefits. Well written. 🙂 —Susan
