In general, the start date for World War II is considered to be September 1, 1939 when Germany invaded Poland but a broader view is to include events that occurred before 1939 such as Japans invasion of China 1937, Italian invasion of Ethiopa 1935 or even the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939.  Life Magazine was publish from 1883 to 1972 and as a publication focused on photojournalism since 1936 when Time Magazine founder bought the magazine.  In honor of Independence Day, I thought I’d show you what Life Magazine was showing the world on or about Independence Day during the war years.   Something else I discovered.  At the following link http://books.google.com/books?id=N0EEAAAAMBAJ&source=gbs_all_issues_r&cad=1 you can view all Life Magazines from 1936 to the final issue in December 1972.  In addition, the photographs from Life Magazine are available in a database hosted by Google http://images.google.com/hosted/life

I love Life Magazine and was first introduced to it by a book my parents owned which was all about Life magazine. It captured the beginning to the war years, the Great Depression, Korea and Vietnam, Film Stars and the 1950’s and 60’s and the fads-I read it all the time and still have that book
