I’ve joined  Flash in the Pan  Hosted by Red Dwyer.  Each flash begins with a single word. It should fit into the quarterly theme of Boys and Their Toys. The word must be used exactly as listed. All flashes must stand alone to be accepted.   The word for my 150 word post today is MODELS.

Doug delivered his newspapers and saved his earnings.  When he visited the toy store with his friends, they bought baseball cards but Doug never did.  He was saving for one of the models on display in the glass case.

Shortly before his birthday, he noticed a sign in the case.

DISCONTINUED MODEL

Ten dollars short and only one left, he asked the clerk to hold it.  He hoped to receive birthday money but the clerk pointed to a sign that said “No Layaways”.

Everyday, Doug would stop in the store to check the shelf but on his birthday, he was disappointed to find it sold.

“Some lady bought it today,” said the clerk.

Throughout dinner and his cake, Doug didn’t smile.  He didn’t tear open his gifts like he normally would.  When Doug opened the last gift, he was excited to find the model of the Star Trek USS Enterprise.
