Pieces of Eight

Pieces of Eight

Even though her wrists were raw from the effort, Sofia would not give up trying to escape from the ropes that made her a captive.   Her evil father sold her to that wretched pirate for a few pieces of eight and now she was on a ship bound for the Americas.  If she could unbind her hands and get out of the cabin, she knew she could find a way to escape when the ship reached land.  When Sofia heard “Land Ho” from above, she worked frantically using the hinge of an old trunk as a knife and was eventually able to free her hands.  Approaching the deck silently, Sofia peered at the activity looking for the perfect opportunity to escape to the shore.

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week Lillie McFerrin will post a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word.

The word does not have to appear in your five sentences, just use it for direction. This week: PIECES
