The Door in the Alley

“The plan is to go downtown after school,” said Kim.

“What did you tell your mom?“ asked Willa.

“My mom won’t be home so I didn’t have to tell her anything,“ said Kim.

Later the girls arrived at the top of the alley steps and Willa spotted a door at the end where kids their age were entering.  Catching the door before it shut, Kim and Willa raced through.  Afterwards, anyone nearby could have seen the door for just a brief second but then it disappeared.  A sign on the door had read
