Submitted for the Daily Prompt: Toy Story

Assignment: What was your favorite plaything as a child? Do you see any connection between your life now, and your favorite childhood toy?  Photographers, artists, poets: show us MEMENTO.

I tried to see if I could narrow it down to one specific toy and I could not.  I remember having Barbies and board games but nothing jumped out in my memory.  I then thought of the time a neighbor helped my mom give us an extra special Christmas by giving us a box of hand me down toys.  These toys were in almost new condition and my mom was grateful as she was raising five young children on her own after my father died.  I only remember one toy from the box and it was the most amazing collection of Viewmaster Reels.  It had a large plastic file box where the reels were lined up for our choosing.  Viewmaster by today’s standards is pretty low tech but we didn’t have DVD players, computers or 5,000 television channels back then.  To me in the late 60’s and early 70’s, Viewmaster was the bomb.

I had a few view masters in the late 70’s early 80’s. They were one of my mom’s favorite yard sale finds and she would always buy them for me and my brothers. Brings back some memories
